1. Nicholas has an appointment with his doctor at 3:00 p.m. He has to get a physical so he can play football. It is 1:34 p.m. now and it will take him 40 minutes to get to the doctor's office. How long can he play a video game before he has to leave to get to the appointment on time?

2. Frank Duryea and his brother Charles formed the Duryea Motor Wagon Company and in 1896 produced thirteen cars. When Henry Ford set up the first moving assembly line, workers were able to produce a car in 1 hour and 39 minutes. At that rate, how many cars could be assembled in forty-nine hours?

3. Andrew lives on a farm in a rural part of his state. When he was three years old, he started learning to ride a horse. Now he has his own horse and rides it everywhere. He grooms it every day and makes sure it has enough fresh food and water. He rides it to and from school almost every day. It takes him twenty-two minutes to ride the nineteen miles to school. At that rate, how many miles could he ride in 1 hour and 50 minutes?

4. Matthew's brother, an emergency medical technician, helped with the rescue of a man from a car caught in floodwaters. The 9-1-1 call came to the Rescue Center at 1:11 It took the EMT vehicle four minutes and forty-three seconds to get to the location of the car, twelve minutes and forty-five seconds to get the man out of the car, and six minutes and fifty seconds to get him to the hospital. At what time did the man reach the hospital?

5. The movie Adventures in Health begins at 3:15 p.m. and ends at 4:37 p.m. What is the elapsed time?

6. If the Duryea brothers raced 54 miles in 10 hours and 23 minutes, what was their average speed in miles per hour?
